Bio

Paul Jones, MD, MAT, is a Child, Adolescent and Family psychiatrist in the Washington D.C. area. Currently a 2009/2010 Fellow in Psychosomatic Medicine at the combined Georgetown/NIH/Washington Hospital Center program, in August 2010 he is joining the Georgetown faculty where his primary focus will be treating children and families dealing with cancer at Georgetown's Lombardi Children's Cancer Center.

A former high school teacher, Dr. Jones spent approximately 15 years in education and human services program development prior to going to medical school. His major clinical and academic interests are how to work with family and caregiving systems to improve outcomes in a variety of psychosomatic medicine (CL psychiatry) contexts, including: treatment of conversion disorders and functional pain in children and adolescents; improving adolescent treatment adherence in cases of life-threatening non-compliance with treatment for Type I diabetes, cystic fibrosis, sickle cell anemia, and HIV/AIDS; addressing end of life issues in patients under 25; and doing meaningful organ transplantation evaluations for kids and adolescents.

Dr. Jones has a particular interest in mindfulness and related mind/body approaches to addressing a host of issues in child and family psychosomatic medicine. Trained in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction at the University of Massachusetts, he is presently working with colleagues at Georgetown on the development of a mindfulness-based intervention for children and families with cancer.
